Just saw the tail end of a sports report thing. Where they told an inspirational story.
About Clemson's football kicker.
Who apparently isn't that good. Because the inspirational part of the story was that he kicked a field goal.
After missing a whole bunch. The run up to the story was that he "struggled" last year. Basically, that means he was terrible. And then he apparently missed a bunch this year, including one earlier in the final game.
So, final seconds of the game. It is tied. If he misses, it goes to overtime (oh no!). If he hits it, they win.
And, against all the odds, he made it!
Uh...
So, we're celebrating this guy because he actually lucked into being passable for a game? Or more accurately, one play. Man, there must be nothing to talk about these days...

There is not.
True sensationalism. (also, that's an awkward word to spell)
It's one of those cases where someone overcomes a "struggle" and when they do it's extremely dramatic (like in this case, winning a big game).
Think about Daniel "Rudy" Ruettiger who was a kid who struggled to get on the Notre Dame team and didn't even get to play until the last home game of his senior year. No real stat-book accolades, but the story of him overcoming obstacles is inspiring.
I guess it's a unique look at something other than folks who are nothing but the most elite performers. Sometimes hearing about how awesome some people are just gets old...
I just... not my thing. Sorry. I also have never seen Rudy.
