2 + 2 + 4.
Just saw some comments where Trevor was complaining about my use of a number as the word of the day, and Su retorted with a distaste for my use of phrases in the same venue.
So, being the ass that I am, I have decided to combine both of their dislikes into today's post. Because I figger that an equation is just like a phrase of numbers!
Take that wieners.

An equation is a phrase of numbers, and that is not a word, so I hate you. However, I also want to dispute your statement that that is an equation. That is simply a mathematical statement, not an equation. There is no equal sign. There must be an equal symbol in an equation because it has to be a statement of some fact. 2+2+4 means nothing. It is incomplete.
Su raises a point, Dan. This would be a side of an equation, given your intent to balance it to it's opposite side (separating them, of course, with an equals sign).
Now, if you were hellbent on omitting an equals sign, I would recommend switching to a chemical reaction "equation." Those use a "yields" sign insead, depending on the direction of the reaciton. Unless you're going for stoichiomentry (those use the = sign).
Try again, nerf-herder.
Sack of crap. I meant to put an equals sign in there.
Dangit.
We both know you did, hence the utter and complete mocking that ensued. I salute you Trevor.
And Dan, I give you the spaceballs salute.
