Phantom Racer

Greg Evigan (2009) A race-car driver returns from beyond the grave.

Syfy Saturday Movie from 8/22.

Guy and his arch-rival crash in some sort of NASCAR-type stock car race. Guy lives, rival dies. Guy quits racing. Guy returns home after 17 years. Guy's Pit Crew Chief (happens to be Rival's brother) just finished restoring Rival's car that he died in, and reveals that he sabotaged Guy's car in that race.

Car becomes possessed by guy's dead spirit (as per the description). Car apparently has woodchipper installed in the trunk.

Car eats Crew Chief's head. Guy gets blamed.

And apparently Car has razor-blade windshield wipers... which is more comical than scary.

Basically it seems that if you've seen Christine, then you've basically seen this movie. Only this movie has a much less attractive car, and doesn't include the whole "Main Character's descent into Madness" sub-plot.

Also, Guy has a far superior Mustache/Goatee combo when compared to Sheriff.

So, far we've accurately predicted the break-down of Guy's car in the first scene, almost to the second. And also Sheriff getting run down.

Sounds... thrilling? Did Rival's brother (aka our 'hero's' car chief) sabatoge the Rival's car so that the Rival died (aka kill his own brother) or did he attempt to sabatoge our hero's car but accidentally killed his own brother?

I am surprised you did not make a comment regarding the ending of this movie. Where the phantom car, after being tricked into searching for food in a car compactor (or something similarly improbable) and being crushed into a cube, has a final moment of defiance by causing a set of stacked cubes to fall over. The movie thus ends with an ominous shot of the car laying helpless on its side.

Like horror movies, where the antagonist is often depicted as rising from the grave or something similar to raise the possibility of a sequel, I'm failing to see the purpose of the lingering camera work on the stricken racecar. Unless of course the sequel is entitled "Phantom Racer II: Do Not Stand Under Wobbly Piles of Car Cubes."

Starring Kevin Sorbo.

And yes, I'm posting on your blog.
